Facility Overview
The DeSoto County Adult Detention Facility is operated by the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department as a county jail, not as a Mississippi Department of Corrections prison. The official sheriff page names Bill Rasco as sheriff. The jail houses adult men and women in county custody. That includes new arrestees, pretrial defendants, people waiting for bond or first appearance, locally sentenced inmates, people held on warrants, and people waiting for transfer. The facility is tied to the sheriff and justice-campus area in Hernando, where the Adult Detention Facility, Sheriff's Department, Justice Court, and District Attorney offices are all close to each other.
The county describes the jail as a modern secure detention center with perimeter fencing, electronic access controls, surveillance, body scanners, remote video visitation, and GUARDIAN RFID inmate-worn devices. The official page also states that the jail is accredited by the American Correctional Association. These are facility-specific facts, not generic jail terms. They show that the DeSoto County Adult Detention Facility is a full adult detention center with medical staff, security staff, video visitation, and a public jail docket.
The county's Adult Detention Facility page is the source for the jail address, history, capacity, staff, jail docket link, visitation links, and facility features.
Use the county source for jail-level custody facts, then use court and state systems only when the person has moved out of the county jail process.
DeSoto Detention Capacity
The official county page says the DeSoto County Adult Detention Facility opened in 2012 with 304 beds. A 2015 addition increased the published capacity to 568 beds. The county also says the jail employs 90 staff members, including 80 security staff and 10 medical staff. No official current daily population count, average daily population, annual booking total, or demographic breakdown was found in the research, so the reliable local number is rated capacity rather than a live population count.
Capacity should not be read as a daily head count. The jail docket may show current person-level records when it loads, but the research did not locate a county dashboard with an official aggregate daily population for DeSoto County.
Lookup at DeSoto Detention
For county custody, start with the official DeSoto County JailTracker jail docket. The county Adult Detention Facility page says to search the online jail docket or call the sheriff's main number for inmate information. The jail docket is the right search path for people booked into the DeSoto County Adult Detention Facility. It is not the right tool for people already sentenced to state prison, federal custody, or immigration custody.
- Open the official jail docket from the county or sheriff source, not from a commercial arrest site.
- Search by last name and add first name when common names return more than one result.
- Open the matching profile and check booking details, charge information, bond, and custody status.
- If the roster does not load or the person may have transferred, call 662-469-8500 or 662-469-8566.
Use the Mississippi Department of Corrections inmate search after a person is sentenced and transferred to state custody. Use the BOP inmate locator or ICE detainee locator only for federal sentenced prisoners or immigration detention. VINELink can help with custody or release notifications where Mississippi agency data is available. For the roster fields and custody search path, use DeSoto County jail inmate records.
DeSoto Detention Contact
The current official facility address is 3425 Industrial Drive W in Hernando. The sheriff's broader address and some direction references also point to 3091 Industrial Drive W, and the county FAQ says mapping services may have trouble with the newer jail south location. DeSoto Detention Visits
Visits at the DeSoto County Adult Detention Facility are video-based. The county visitation page and visitation rules require scheduling ahead through Smart Jail Mail, and the visitor must have the visit PIN. The research found a local address conflict: county pages list visitation-related access at 3425 Industrial Drive W and also 2615 Panola Street. Confirm the visitor entrance before leaving, especially if using GPS.

Phone Mail and Money
Smart Communications and Smart Jail Mail provide phone and video services for the DeSoto County Adult Detention Facility. The official inmate phone page names Smart Jail Mail as the provider, while the visitation page uses the same system for video visits. The inmate handbook says detainees have the right to correspond with family and friends as security allows, but the research did not locate a current public mail-address format with booking number. Confirm the format before sending mail.

The commissary price sheet also notes sales tax is not included and that sales are final, with no exchanges or refunds.
Booking at DeSoto Detention
All inmates are booked and released through the jail south location, according to the county FAQ. Booking can follow an arrest by the Sheriff's Department, city police, Mississippi Highway Patrol, or another agency. Intake includes identity steps, property control, contraband screening, booking photo and fingerprints when required, medical or mental-health screening, classification, and assignment to a housing area. The handbook says an identification wristband is placed on the inmate during processing and must be worn at all times.
- Booking
- The intake process after arrest, before the public roster may fully show the person.
- Classification
- The jail's housing and security review for where and how a person is held.
- Detainer
- A hold or request from another agency that can affect release even when local bond is listed.
If a person stays longer than eight hours, the handbook says the facility issues a handbook, clear in-cell bag, face cloth, jail slippers, inmate jumpsuit, toilet paper, towel, blanket, mattress, and hygiene pack. The handbook also lists a five-dollar wristband replacement fee when loss or damage is due to detainee neglect.
Facility Services and Rules
The DeSoto County Adult Detention Facility publishes more operational detail than many county jails. The official sources mention medical services, grievance and request procedures, mail, money, protective custody, law library access, commissary, indigent inmates, discipline, and PREA. The county says 10 medical staff provide inmate medical services. Chaplain Jackie Willcutt is listed at 662-469-8689, which gives a direct local contact for religious or spiritual support.
Records and custody systems should not be mixed. JailTracker covers the DeSoto County jail roster and booking-stage records. MEC, Justice Court, County Court, Circuit Court, and the District Attorney track court records after a jail arrest. MDOC handles sentenced state-prison custody after transfer. BOP and ICE are fallback systems for federal or immigration custody, and neither operates a DeSoto County facility page for this jail. The DeSoto County inmate population overview separates those custody levels before a search begins.
Note: Confirm custody, visitation location, and visitor entry rules with the facility before traveling to the jail.
